GEORGE FRANCIS SWADE #49
In 1963, along with some community minded friends, founded the West Torrance Lions Club. Shortly thereafter, in 1965, the club started a High School All Star football game for the seniors of the South Bay area. Proceeds going to charity, the game has raised well over a million dollars since then for various Lions Charities and Scholarships for game participants. This year marks the 57th game and it is a proud tradition of not only our club but also the entire South Bay. George’s passing is a great loss to our club and the entire community. Our hope is to keep the game going to not only reward and honor the senior football players of the South Bay but to also keep George’s spirit of community, leadership, and Lionism alive for the following years. Tonight, at halftime, we will awarding the 1st annual George F. Swade Founders Scholarship.
